International conference on ‘The Rise of New Russia’ Back
The college had jointly organized its first ever international conference on ‘The Rise of New Russia’ with the Centre for Central Eurasian Studies and the Department of Civics and Politics, University of Mumbai on 29th and 30th January, 2016. It was held at the Pherozeshah Mehta Bhavan, Kalina Campus. The conference was inaugurated by Consul General Ilia Savelev, Vice Consul Vladimir Dementiev, Trade representative Mr.SergeyLunev, scholars from Russia, Ambassador Ashok Sajjanhar, Mr. Sudheendra Kulkarni Director of Observer Research Foundation.
The conference was graced by Hon.President of SES Mr. S.K.Sawant, Hon. Chairman Mr. J.R.Mejari, Hon. Vice Chairman Mr. G.S.Pandloskar, Hon. Secretary Mr. R.V.Prabhu and Hon Treasurer Mr. R.G.Jagdale. The inaugural address was given by Ambassador Ashok Sajjanhar. The keynote address was delivered by eminent Professor Sergey Markedonov. Mementoes were given to the dignitaries at the hands of Hon. President of Shailendra Education Society Mr. S.K.Sawant. He also gave a speech highlighting the foundation of Shailendra Education Society and its activities.
The valedictory was chaired by Prof. Madhav Das Nalpat and Major General Anil Kumar Shukla. Mementoes were given at the hands of Hon. Chairman Mr. J.R.Mejari to the dignitaries. The conference was attended by many members of the Russian Consulate, Russian Centre for Science and Culture, dignitaries from School of International Studies Jawaharlal Nehru University and teachers from different colleges. There were sessions on trade, economy, foreign policy, social, political issues and Indo-Russian relations. The conference got 63 research papers from invitees and college teachers.
Certificates were given to the participants. There were parallel sessions in the Virtual Classroom and Faculty Room. The conference was a grand success and a golden moment in the history of the Degree College. It was possible only because of the whole hearted and gracious support of the mastermind of the conference Professor Sanjay Deshpande, Director Centre for Central Eurasian Studies and the kind co-operation and tremendous backing of Professor SurendraJondhale from Civics and Politics Department ,University of Mumbai.
