Report on Actuarial ScienceE on 2nd March 2024.

Actuarial science is the discipline that applies mathematical and statistical methods to assess risk in insurance, pension, finance, investment, and other industries and professions. More generally, actuaries apply rigorous mathematics to model matters of uncertainty and life expectancy. To appraise students about the above activities we took them to the Institute of Actuarial Science & Quantitative Studies, Juhu Lane Andheri West. Students were guided about Course details, fees of the course, Career opportunities, and salary. The event was held on 2nd March 2024 in total 10 students visited the Institute of Actuarial Science. Student learned that Actuarial science is a centuries-old discipline incorporating mathematical, problem-solving, and communication skills to mitigate risks and facilitate financial stability and growth. Studying for an actuarial science degree provides students with a secure path to a solid professional career.

Bank Visit on 21st February,2024 and 26th February,2024.

A visit to a bank is an experience that offers an insightful peek into the functioning of a financial institution. It is a place where numerous transactions take place, money is saved, and loans are provided, thereby playing a pivotal role in the economy.
The exterior of a bank often exudes an aura of solidity and security, designed to inspire trust. Inside, a bank is typically divided into various sections, each designated for a specific task. The counters, the cabins, the waiting areas, and the vaults all contribute to a well-organized system. To appraise students about above activities one group of students was taken for bank visit to SARASWAT BANK, Dahisar West on 21st February,2024 and another to JANASEVA SAHAKARI BANK, Dahisar East on 26th February,2024. In total 51 students had a bank visit. The operations in both bank is carried out meticulously. Students saw how customers engage in various activities like depositing money, withdrawing cash, requesting loans, or updating passbooks. Students were shown behind the scenes, that is how both the bank employees manage these transactions, ensure data security, and provide customer service. Bank visit is not just about monetary transactions; it’s an educational journey into the financial backbone of our society. It provides a glimpse into how money is managed, and how the economy functions. It is a testament to the fact that banks are more than just buildings; they are institutions that uphold the economic structure of a country.

VISIT TO RBI MONETARY MUSEUM on 08 th  August,2023.

A visit to RBI monetary museum was organized on 08 th  August,2023 for the students of BBI, BMS and BAF. Asst. Prof . Pooja Barad, Asst. Prof. Anita Sharma and Asst. Prof. Pranjali Mhraphlkar visited the monetary Museum with 70 students. Through a power point presentation, students were informed about the history of money as well as the duties and responsibilities of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the origins of the phrase "Bankers Bank" (RBI). 
Students had a fantastic opportunity to learn about the history of the evolution of money, and the value of conserving money for the future by visiting a monetary museum. Students learned about various currencies and the history of money in a workshop held therein during visit.
The museum showed the evolution of currency - from barter to coins, coins to paper money and, later, to e-money. Museum shows the journey of the monetary system in the India. The coinage section had coins from 6th century B.C.   RBI Monetary Museum had various galleries wherein coins, paper money and other monetary artifacts are preserved. Students found the visit very interesting and informative.

A session on “Career options in Banking and Insurance” and “Career in Accounts” on 07th July 2023.

“Career options in Banking and Insurance” and “Career in Accounts” Department of BBI (Banking and Insurance) had organized a session on “Career options in Banking and Insurance” and “Career in Accounts” on 07th July 2023. The speaker of the same was Mr. Kishore Parmar. He guided students about the various careers options in Banking& Insurance, careers in CA, Computerized accounting and GST. The sessions was attended by 90 students.

2022-23 Activities

Event on Global Money "Plan your Money, Plan Your Future." from March 23rd to 25th 2023

The Banking and Insurance Department of Thakur College of Commerce and Science, Kandivali (East) hosted an Intercollegiate Event from March 23rd to 25th 2023, on Global Money "Plan your Money, Plan Your Future." Our students took part in this competition and secured first and third prizes.

“Session on Careers in Actuaries” on 20th February 2023

“Session on Careers in Actuaries” was organized on 20th February 2023. The speaker of the same was Mr. Aman Loharuka the faculty at Institute of Actuarial and Quantative Studies (IAQS) Andheri. He had provided guidance on Careers in Actuarials. 57 students attended the session.

Bank Visit on 17th January, 2023 & 18th January, 2023

Bank Visit was organized at TJSB Bank (Thane Janata Sahakari Bank) at Dahisar East branch on 17th January, 2023 & 18th January, 2023. 62 students were benefitted through this bank visit. The objective of this visit was to enhance the skills and knowledge of students related to Bank’s working with special reference to Account opening, KYC norms, Credit card facility, Mobile banking, Locker facility, different types of loan offered by the bank etc.

Session on “Banking and SSC (Staff Selection Commission) Examination on 05th December 2022

Session on “Banking and SSC (Staff Selection Commission) Examination was organized on 05th December 2022. The speaker of the same was Prof. Rohit Jha, Director of Mahendra’s Education Pvt. Ltd, Mumbai. The session covered a variety of exams from diverse fields, including those for the Staff Selection Commission, NRA-CET, Railways, and several State level exams. Students responded to the event in question quite effectively. 139 students showed up for the session in total.

“Session on Competitive Exams” on 24th August 2022

“Session on Competitive Exams”. was organized on 24th August 2022. The speaker of the same was Mr. Satya Prakash, a Co-Founder of Achievers Mantra as well as Counselor, Speaker and trainer of Quant and Logic for Aptitude Exams. He offered strategies for passing numerous competitive exams. He offered advice on how to apply for various competitive tests, what qualifications were required, etc. In total, 96 students attended the session.

“Session on Financial Literacy and Awareness” on 04th August 2022

“Session on Financial Literacy and Awareness” was organized on 04th August 2022. The speaker of the same was Mr. Ashraf Shaikh, Sourcing Manager in ICICI Foundation, Mumbai, with 12 years of experience in Education Industry. The session comprised of guidance on Savings and Budgeting, Investments, Insurance, Retirement and Pension, Remittance, Government Schemes, Fraud protection and also about grievance redressal. In all 32 students attended the session.

Orientation session, 9th July, 2019

Orientation session was arranged on 9th July, 2019 for F.Y.B.Com, F.Y.B.A, F.Y.B.B.I, F.Y.B.M.S and F.Y.B.Sc (IT) students. Here the students were guided about rules, regulations of University like passing standards, examination pattern, college discipline etc.

Parents Teachers meeting, 11th August, 2018

Parents Teachers meeting was conducted on 11th August, 2018 at 8.00 a.m. Here the parents were guided about rules, regulations of University like passing standards, examination pattern, college discipline, college activities etc. Various doubts of parents relating to college activities were resolved. The session was highly interactive and beneficial to bridge the communication gap between the teachers and parents.

Orientation Session on 1st August, 2018

Orientation session was engaged on 1st August, 2018 for F.Y.B.B.I students. Here the students were guided about rules, regulations of University like passing standards, examination pattern, college discipline etc.

Session on Banking Exams and MBA CET/CAT on 2nd August, 2018

Department of Banking & Insurance organised a guidance session on various Banking Exams and MBA CET/CAT for TYBBI,TYBMS,SYBBI and SYBMS students. The session was conducted by Mr.Prasanna Kamat, Director of Career Launcher on 2nd August, 2018. In all 130 students attended the session. The session was highly interactive as the students clarified the various queries related to competitive exams. The session was followed by a Aptitude test for giving hands on experience to students.

Bank Nationalisation Day

On completion of 50 years of Bank Nationalisation, Department of Banking and Insurance organised an event on 18th July, 2018 comprising of poster making competition, PPT presentation competition and Quiz competition for celebrating glorious journey of banking.

More than 100 students participated in the event. At the end three prizes for each competition were given by special guest Mr. Devidas Tuljapurkar, Special Assistant, Bank of Maharashtra. The winners of the competitions were-
