A Library plays a vital role in the search of knowledge. It serves as the workshop for the entire college – students and faculty alike. Shailendra College Library aims to support the teaching learning activity in the college and also provide the students updated knowledge and to ensure the optimum utilization of the available resources. Our mission is “PrajvalitoJnanamayoPradeepah” which itself signifies the importance of Library in the College environment.

The Central library is situated on the top floor of the college wing. It occupies about 1934 sq. ft. and can accommodate about 100 students at a time. The library is provided with proper ventilation, lightning & fans.

Distinct Features of Library

  • Our Library is fully computerized with the implementation of SOUL (Library software from INFLIBNET) along with Bar code system. It is upgraded to SOUL 2.0.
  • Purchased two Kindle readers for the students to access e-books.
  • Two library cards are given to the students at the time of admission to borrow textbooks, General books & periodicals.
  • Annual membership to Ex – students of the College Reading membership to external graduates pursuing professional courses.
  • Visiting membership to the students of other Colleges to use the Library for their reference work.
  • Special card given to the students doing professional courses like ICAI, ICWA, ICSI etc.
  • Scholar card to the SY and TY students who achieve excellence in their studies
  • Interlibrary lending
  • Regular display of new arrivals in the library; Newspaper cuttings on Career guidance, current topics.
  • Library reading room is kept open on Sundays during examination days.
  • Free Internet access to students and staff. A separate hub for internet access is installed in the library

Library Rules

  • All students must make use of the library facility to enrich their academic excellence.
  • Only bonafide members are allowed to enter the college library on the strength of a valid Identity Card, which must be produced as and when it is demanded by the library staff or college teaching staff.
  • Complete silence must be maintained in & near the library.
  • Students should not bring Walkman or any electronic instruments and eatables inside the library.
  • Using the Cell Phone in the Library is strictly prohibited.
  • Keep your mobile on silent mode
  • Infringement of the library rules will result in the withdrawal of the library facility from the students.
  • All cases of the violation of rules will be reported to the Principal for suitable action.
  • In case of any difficulty, readers can approach the Librarian.
  • Co-operation of the students is earnestly sought in observing the rules.

    Library has subscribed to "National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content (N-LIST)". It is an Initiative of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Under the NME-ICT now funded by UGC, as college component under UGC-INFONET Digital Library Consortium. The Consortium subscribes to the following resources for its UGC funded 12B Colleges/institutions. All electronic resources subscribed are available from the publisher's Web site.     Library Orientation :
    Every year an Orientation Programme is arranged for the fresher’s in the month of July / August so as to introduce them with the library collection, activities and services.

    Best Library User Award :
    To encourage students and staff to make efficient use of the library collection and its services 'Best Library User Award' has been constituted from the academic year 2010-2011.

    Book Bank Schemes :

    College library provides two Book Bank Schemes to the students. One is College Book Bank Scheme which is managed by the college funds and provided to the financially deprived students. Our staff, students and alumni members generously donate their books to the College book bank. Library also has a BC Book Bank scheme which is funded by the University of Mumbai for the reserved category students. Every year a large number of students avail these facilities.

    Current Awareness Service :
    The service is provided to the students and staff by regularly displaying book jackets of new arrivals, newspaper cuttings on Career guidance and current topics.

    Interlibrary Lending :
    The College library tied up with Shailendra Education Society's Hi - Tech Library and neighboring College libraries for Interlibrary lending.


    Reading Inspiration Day on 15th October 2019

    The Birth Anniversary of Late President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was celebrated as "Reading Inspiration Day" by organizing “Book – Exhibition” of books written by and written on Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. Books on various subjects were also displayed on this occasion.

    Orientation Programme 5th August 2019 till 9th August 2019

    The orientation programme was arranged for the students of First-year classes from 5th August 2019 till 9th August 2019. The students were apprised with the different aspects of the library like its collection, activities, and services which included introduction of the Library, its staff, collection, and various sections, services rendered by the Library, activities of the library, various rules and regulations of the Library. Students were also given training on how to use WEB OPAC using search strategies and how to access e-resources using N-List project, National Digital Library and e-PG Pathshala. They were also informed about the various courses conducted by SWAYAM.

    Vachak Saptah 2018 - 2019

    The Library celebrated “Vachak Saptah” from 1st March 2019 till 7th March 2019 wherein students presented Book Reviews on the selected books through power point presentations. There were total 27 participants who were guided by 10 mentors. The winners were selected Author wise and language wise. Five Best Mentors were also selected among ten mentors. All the participants were felicitated with a book so as to encourage them to participate in more numbers in such a kind of activity.

    The 87th Birth Anniversary of Late President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was celebrated as "Reading Inspiration Day" by organizing “Book – Exhibition” of books written by and written on Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. Books on different subjects like Commerce, Economics, Politics, Management, Personality development, Mathematics, Statistics, Competitive examinations, Marathi literature, Computer science and Research methodology were also displayed on this occasion. The main motto behind organizing such type of activity is to inculcate reading habits among youngsters and to attract them towards library. This year is also being celebrated as ‘Birth Centenary year’ of famous Marathi Writer “Purushottam Lakshman Deshpande (8 November 1919 – 12 June 2000), popularly known by his initials ("Pu. La.") or as P. L. Deshpande and Marāthi poet, lyricist, writer and actor “Gajānan Digambar Mādguḷkar (1 October 1919 – 14 December 1977) popularly known by his initials Ga Di Mā (गदिमा)”.An exhibition of charts of Biography of P. L. Deshpande and G. D. Mādguḷkar were also displayed in the library. Books written by ‘P. L. Deshpande’ were also exhibited.

    Every year an orientation programme was arranged for the students of First-year classes so as to introduce them with the different aspects of the library like its collection, activities, and services. This year the programme was conducted from 31st July 2018 till 4th August 2018. The programme focused on the introduction of the Library, its staff, collection, and various sections, services rendered by the Library, activities of the library, various rules and regulations of the Library. In the programme, students were also given training on how to use WEB OPAC using search strategies and how to access e-resources using N-List project, National Digital Library, and e-PGPathasahala.

    Reading Inspiration Day 2017

    Birth Anniversary of our beloved Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam was celebrated as “Reading Inspiration Day” in Shailendra College. On this occasion a “Book – Exhibition” was organized on 13th October 2017 and 14th October 2017.

    In the exhibition, Books written by and written on Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam were displayed. Books on different subjects Economics, Politics, Management, Personality development, Mathematics, Statistics, Competitive examinations, Marathi literature, Computer science and Research methodology were also exhibited on this occasion.

    This year is being celebrated as ‘Birth Centenary year’ of famous Marathi poet, Writer, literary critic and translator ‘Govind Vinayak Karandikar’ better known as ‘Vinda Karandikar’. An exhibition of charts of Biography and poems of ‘Vinda Karandikar’ were also displayed in the library. Books written by ‘Vinda Karandikar’ were also exhibited.

    NPTEL Course in E-Library 2017

    Student studying online certification course from NPTEL which is a joint initiative of the IITs and IISc from E-Library.The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), a project funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD),provides e-learning through online Web and Video courses in Engineering, Sciences, Technology, Management and Humanities. This is a joint initiative by seven IITs and IISc Bangalore. Other selected premier institutions also act as Associate Partner Institutions.

    Library Orientation 2017

    This year an orientation programme was organised from 31st July 2017 till 4th August 2017 by the Library Staff for the First year students. The main objective behind organizing such programme is to familiarize students with the infrastructure, various rules, regulations, functions and services offered by the library. The programme also involved to acquaint students with various reference sources related to the subjects taught in the College. The students were demonstrated search techniques of WebOPAC and some of the useful and informative websites. Government of India launched two important projects – Digital Library of India and e-PG Pathshala. In the orientation emphasis was also given on these projects.

    Exhibition-cum-Sale of Books 2017

    An “Exhibition-cum-Sale of Books” is organized every year by the library as a regular activity for the students, staff and local people residing in nearby area with the purpose to develop a culture of reading among students and to avail for them an exposure to various kinds of books. The exhibition provides a great way to pick up a wide range of books at reasonable prices. This year was our eleventh year of organizing Book Exhibition. Two days “Exhibition cum Sale of Books” was organized from 20th January and 21st January 2017. Six book distributors and publishers had participated and exhibited titles on various subjects. The exhibition received good response.

    Reading Inspiration Day 2016

    A display of Books written by and on Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam was organized to celebrate “Reading Inspiration Day” on 15th October 2016. Books on different subjects like biographies, motivational stories were also exhibited on this occasion. We have appealed to the Students and Staff to observe “No gadget day” on 15th October 2016 and spend more time in reading books. They were also invited to donate books on their birthdays throughout the year.

    4.Various Rules and Regulations of the Library
    5.Print as well as e - resources available in the library
    6.Provided hands-on Training on WEBOPAC and access to e-resources of N-List.

    Library Renovation

    Library has been renovated with new modified structure creating more space for stacking books as well as enhancing reading facility. E-Library with 6 computers to access thousands of e - journals and e-books and free internet surfing are attractions for the students. A well-equipped Research Centre with computers and reference books has also been provided in the Library.

    • 2. Life and Times of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam - by Prof. Dr. Swati Pitale.
    • 3. Importance of Reading Books in the Present Scenario - by Prof. Ajay Acharya
    • 4. Literary Works of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam - by Prof. Sony Paul
    The program was well received by the student and all pledged to start reading books henceforth.

    10th Exhibition-cum- Sale of Books 2015

    An “Exhibition-cum-Sale of Books” was organised on 4th December 2015 and 5th December 2015 for the students, staff and local people residing in nearby area with the purpose to develop a culture of reading among students and to avail for them an exposure to various kinds of books. The exhibition provided a great way to pick up a wide range of books at reasonable prices. This year was our tenth year of organizing Book Exhibition.

    LIBRARY 2015-2016

    Library plays a crucial role in the development of students by providing nutrition to satisfy their intellectual needs. This year brought joy on the face of the students as they had access to a freshly renovated library. Library has been renovated with new modified structure creating more space for stacking books as well as enhancing reading facility. E-Library with 6 computers to access thousands of e - journals and e-books and free internet surfing are attractions for the students. A well-equipped Research Centre with computers and reference books has also been provided in the Library. The opening ceremony of newly renovated library was conducted on 10th October 2015.

    To help students to achieve their educational goal, our library tries to procure material on various subjects. To a collection of about 28120 books, this year we added about 2100 books. We subscribe to 55 magazines and national as well as international journals.

    To encourage reading habits in students and staff, we constituted Best Library User Award from the academic year 2010 - 2011. This year Best Library User Award was given to Siddhika Nazare, TYBCOM and Krishna Malani, TYBBI from students’ category. Associate Prof. Dr. Swati Pitale & Junior Clerk, Mr. Gurunath Chavan received Best Library User award among Teaching faculty and Administrative staff respectively.

    Our Library provides a Book Bank facility for financially weak students. In the current academic year about 370 students have taken the advantage of this facility, which is almost 31% of the total student population. 170 students’ availed College Book Bank Scheme and 200 students’ availed books through BC Book Bank scheme this year. Total 1789 books were distributed to the students through book bank schemes.

    To expose the wide range of books to the people, an “Exhibition cum sale of Books” was organized by the Library on 4th and 5th December 2015 in which about 6 book suppliers participated and exhibited titles on various subjects. The exhibition received over whelmed response.
